Tell us about your sports & fitness background.

I was always the worst at P.E. growing up and other than a dance or Pilates class every now and then I was not into sports or fitness until about 23 when I worked at Golds Gym. I slowly started working out with some of the trainers from my gym which led to strength training, somewhere along the way I began running which led to my first half marathon. And ever since I’ve always tried to move my body mostly for mental clarity.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

Greg L. Invited me to CrossFit Saved! I tried one workout and was super intimidated by CrossFit and it’s reputation for hardcore workouts.

I didn’t come back until years later when I was invited again by Claudia

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)

I’m stronger for sure! By simply showing up I’ve become stronger now in my 30s than I ever did working out in my 20s.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

The friendships and community! The people I’ve met are unmatched and although my response doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with fitness… it’s the community aspect that keeps me coming back and I know that’s true for so many others as well! Also, the culture of support is awesome. You’d be surprised at how you can tap into an extra push during a workout when you hear the others chanting “you got this, V!”

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFS moments.

I love all the gym events or parties and seeing everyone in a more fun/let-loose environment.

Any advice for people just getting started?

Just show up!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

I’m a huge movie fan, comedy/improv, etc. I’ve had the opportunity to travel a lot this past year which had been such a blessing! And I’m kind of a Bible nerd.
