Tell us about your sports & fitness background.
Never been a lifting weights guy until the last year or two – a I have always enjoyed – hiking hunting surfing kickboxing – things that make your heart race a little extra. Once I tried CrossFit it seemed to put really well and I enjoyed it .
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?
I got into CrossFit becuase of a Freind who referred me for nutrition coaching – my first work out was man makers and I partnered up with Carlos – who is way more athletic then me – it started good but ended in a struggle. I thought “crossfit is super gnarly I need to get my act together” after consistently coming the hard work outs get more manageable and I now look forward to them.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF?
Prior to CrossFit I had ok conditioning for kickboxing for a long time but it’s way different when you add weights . My leg strength and endurance has changed dramatically – this helps everywhere – hiking – surfing even at work! I am much more focused on my diet – I feel like when I work out it makes me want to eat cleaner and vice versa. I belive I have lost almost 10% body fat and a solid 15 lbs since day one!
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
One thing I have experienced in other areas that I didn’t expect in CrossFit is that it builds mental strength as well – often times in tough work outs I think “this is hard” but you keep going and when you complete it you realize how much further you can go beyond your expectations.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFS moments.
Every moment at CrossFit is a great moment!
Any advice for people just getting started?
For those just starting the sport – don’t be intimidated – try the uncomfortable stuff that is new and don’t worry about trying to keep up with everyone – consistency will produce results faster then expected .
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
Out side of CrossFit I love working – even though sometimes I hate it – I always manage to find purpose and areas to grow and develop. I love the outdoors – being on top of a mountain miles away from people and cities is one of the most freeing places to be .
